Frequently Asked Questions

How can Swedish Massage help me?

Swedish massage uses softer strokes on the bonier and more delicate parts of the body, and stronger strokes where there is thicker muscle coverage. This sensitivity to pressure makes it ideal for both remedial treatment and relaxation. Swedish massage can help to:

Ease muscular strain by flushing out toxins;
Improve circulation by increasing oxygen flow in the blood;
Help to keep ligaments and tendons supple;
Stimulate the nervous system; and
Reduce emotional and physical stress.

Will my massage be uncomfortable?

Massage therapy is rarely uncomfortable. Reducing severe muscle tension may require a firm massage. Massage to promote relaxation often requires a lighter touch. The client's wishes concerning pressure will always be followed. The pressure can be changed at any point during treatment.

How much massage therapy will I need?

At your first appointment, I will ask a few questions to ensure massage therapy is suitable for you and to plan your treatment. This will give me an idea of how much massage therapy you will need. If you have any health issues, please mention them at the earliest opportunity.

What do I wear?

Swedish massage therapy is most effective performed on skin, using a light massage oil. You will be given peace and privacy to undress. You will be asked to undress as the treatment requires. You will be covered with towels at all times during treatment. Only the area being massaged will be uncovered.

What next?

After your massage, you will be given time to dress and to discuss how the massage felt. I will also give any aftercare advice that may be relevant.

How will I feel after my massage?

You should leave your appointment feeling calm, relaxed and pretty amazing! However, after a firm or deeper massage, the body can take some time to adjust to treatment.

What Happens During Sports Massage?
Sports massage is a type of Swedish massage that stimulates circulation of blood and lymph fluids. Some sports massage movements use trigger point therapy to break down adhesions (knots in the muscles) and increase range of motion.

There are four types of sports massages:
* Pre-event sports massage -- a short, stimulating massage 15 - 45 minutes before the event. It is directed toward the parts of the body that will be involved in the exertion.
* Post-event sports massage -- given within an hour or two of the event, to normalize the body's tissues.
* Restorative sports massage -- given during training to allow the athelete to train harder and with less injury.
* Rehabilitative sports massage -- aimed at alleviating pain due to injury and returning the body to health.
